Our Team
THOMAS P. OPPEL
Thomas Oppel co-founded All Points Communications, LLC, after nearly 25 years as a media consultant, strategist and political journalist. The firm was built on the principle that winning campaigns deliver consistent, compelling messages that are rooted in values and focused on real people.
Oppel began his career as a teacher then moved to journalism. He covered two presidential campaigns and dozens of state and local elections for United Press International and daily newspapers in New England and the South.
In 1985, Oppel moved from the audience to the arena, managing and advising Democratic campaigns from the precinct level to the presidency. He was press secretary for Mike Espy's successful campaign to become the first African-American elected to Congress from Mississippi in 100 years. Oppel also served as chief political and communications advisor in the campaigns and administration of former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus and provided strategic advice to several advocacy groups and state and local Democratic organizations.
For 10 years, Oppel was a partner at a Washington-based media consulting firm that helped elect more than a dozen Democratic U.S. Senators and more than two dozen other candidates to congressional, state, county and municipal offices. Among their many victories were Sens. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Max Cleland of Georgia, Ernest "Fritz" Hollings of South Carolina, and Bob Kerrey of Nebraska.
Throughout his career, Oppel has worked with a variety of international organizations aimed at building democracy, including working with pro-Agreement political parties in Northern Ireland and serving on a U.S. State Department mission to Bulgaria. He has published numerous articles on politics, government and communications and participated in various panels, workshops and trainings.
A graduate of Seton Hall University, Oppel earned a bachelor's degree in English literature and a teaching certificate in secondary education, along with a minor in psychology. He is currently working on a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies at Dartmouth College. Oppel lives with his wife, Myra, and their three children in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire, home of the nation's first presidential primary every four years. He is also a proud member of the National Writers Union, UAW Local 1981.
